Guided Hot & Cold Ritual
Contrast Therapy
The full cycle, in a private suite, done properly
THE TREATMENT
Hot, then cold, then again
Contrast therapy alternates rounds of sauna heat and cold plunge in a single guided session. The heat dilates blood vessels and the cold constricts them, and cycling between the two drives circulation, supports recovery, and builds stress resilience more than either does alone. Sessions run in a private contrast suite or a shared setting.
Sauna and cold plunge are each worth doing. Cycling between them is where the practice gets serious. Heat opens your blood vessels and relaxes your muscles. Cold slams them shut. Alternating rounds turns that into a pump, and your body responds to the swing in a way it doesn’t to either extreme on its own.
Contrast therapy at bluSONIL is a curated session, not a pair of separate bookings. You get a private contrast suite (or a shared setting if you’d rather have the company), multiple rounds, showers and lounge access, and optional guidance from our team on protocol and timing. You can follow a structured protocol or run it your own way.
- HeatYou start in the sauna. Dry heat raises your core temperature, dilates blood vessels, and loosens tight muscles.
- ColdYou move to the cold plunge. The cold constricts vessels sharply, and the contrast is what makes the cycle work.
- RepeatMultiple rounds, guided by your preference or one of our protocols. Our team can advise on round length and timing, or leave you to it.

Why it works
What contrast therapy does for your body and mind
The cycle is the point
Alternating heat and cold does more than either does on its own.Heat dilates your blood vessels, cold constricts them, and cycling between the two turns that into a pump. This is why contrast therapy exists as its own practice rather than as two bookings back to back.
A curated session, not a DIY workout
You get a private contrast suite, multiple rounds, and optional guidance from our team.Follow one of our protocols or run it your own way. Either way, the setup, the timing, and the recovery lounge are handled for you. Shared settings are available if you'd rather have the company.
Drives circulation and vascular tone
The dilate-then-constrict cycle stimulates blood flow and supports vascular function. This is the mechanism behind most of the other benefits, and it's the one the contrast cycle produces most directly.
Speeds recovery and eases soreness
Cold calms inflamed tissue while heat relaxes muscle, and cycling supports recovery from hard training. It's a long-standing practice among athletes, and it's the fastest way to feel the difference if you train hard.
Builds stress resilience and mental clarity
Cycling between extremes trains your nervous system to adapt and settle. Most people leave clear-headed and calm, and the practice of staying composed inside a hard thing carries over past the session.
Pairs with the rest of your recovery
Contrast therapy sits at the center of a broader recovery practice.Ask us how to combine it with Cryotherapy, Red Light Therapy or Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy across your week.

Contrast therapy questions, answered
What is contrast therapy?
Contrast therapy alternates rounds of sauna heat and cold plunge in a single guided session. Heat dilates blood vessels, cold constricts them, and cycling between the two drives circulation and supports recovery more than either does alone. Sessions run in a private contrast suite or a shared setting.
How is this different from just booking sauna and cold plunge separately?
Contrast therapy is a curated session built around the cycle. You get the private contrast suite, multiple rounds, showers, recovery lounge access, and optional guidance from our team on protocol and timing. Booking sauna and plunge separately gives you the components. Contrast therapy gives you the practice, with the setup handled.
What's the difference between this and cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy is a two to three minute session in dry, extremely cold air. It's fast and standalone. Contrast therapy is a longer session cycling between sauna heat and cold water immersion, so you get the full hot-cold swing rather than cold alone. Many people do both, and both are included in bluRITUAL.
How many rounds should I do?
Most people do two to four rounds, though it depends on your experience and how you're feeling. You can follow one of our suggested protocols or run it your own way. Our team can advise on round length and timing.
Is contrast therapy safe?
Contrast therapy is well-tolerated by most healthy adults, and our team is available throughout. It isn't appropriate for everyone, including people with certain heart, circulatory, or blood pressure conditions, or those who are pregnant. Check with your doctor if you have a medical condition, and hydrate before and after.
Private suite or shared setting?
Both are available. The private contrast suite is a solitary, restorative experience with no one waiting on you. The shared setting is social, which some people prefer and which makes the practice easier to keep up. Choose whichever fits how you like to recover.
How often should I do contrast therapy?
The benefits are cumulative, so consistency matters more than intensity. Many people do it two to four times a week. It's included in bluRITUAL for exactly that reason, the value comes from making it a habit rather than an occasional session.
Should I do contrast therapy before or after a workout?
After is most common, since the cycle supports recovery and eases soreness. Some people use it on rest days as a standalone practice. Our team can help you time it around your training.
"Contrast therapy is one of the most effective ways to activate the body's own recovery systems. Alternating between heat and cold stimulates circulation, helps manage inflammation, and trains the nervous system to become more resilient, physically and mentally."
