Traditional Dry Heat Therapy

Traditional Sauna

The oldest recovery ritual, and still the best-studied

THE TREATMENT

Heat, sweat, recover, repeat

Traditional dry sauna uses high heat to raise your core temperature, which increases circulation, relaxes muscles, and triggers a deep recovery response. Sessions run 30 to 45 minutes, and regular use is associated with cardiovascular and longevity benefits in long-term research.

Our community sauna is a traditional dry sauna, the same practice that’s been used for centuries and, notably, the one with the strongest research behind it. Decades of Finnish population studies have linked regular sauna use to cardiovascular health and longevity, which is why it remains a cornerstone of serious recovery practice rather than a passing wellness trend.

The experience is simple. High, dry heat raises your core temperature, your heart rate climbs, blood vessels dilate, and your body responds the way it does to moderate exercise. Muscles let go. Your mind slows down. It’s a social, restorative environment, ideal before or after a workout, or as a standalone reset.

  1. HeatYou settle into the dry heat and let your core temperature rise. Circulation increases and your heart rate climbs, similar to moderate exercise.
  2. SweatOver 30 to 45 minutes, muscles release, tension drops, and the body shifts into a deep recovery response.
  3. CoolStep out and let your body cool. Alternating heat and cold is where sauna does its best work, which is why it pairs with cold plunge.

Why it works

What traditional sauna does for your body

Supports cardiovascular health

Sauna heat raises your heart rate and dilates blood vessels, producing a cardiovascular response similar to moderate exercise.

This is the most researched benefit of traditional sauna. Long-term population studies have associated regular use with cardiovascular health, which is why it holds up as a longevity practice rather than a trend.

Speeds recovery and eases soreness

Improved circulation helps reduce muscle soreness and joint stiffness after training.

It's a favorite among athletes and anyone with a physically demanding routine, used before a workout to loosen up or after to recover.

Deep relaxation and better sleep

Heat prompts muscles to release and the nervous system to settle.

Many people find that a sauna session supports deeper, more restorative sleep, especially in the evening.

Supports circulation and cellular health

Heat exposure increases blood flow and supports the body's own repair processes.

Repeated heat exposure is a form of hormetic stress, a controlled challenge the body adapts to, which is the same principle behind exercise and cold therapy.

A ritual you'll actually keep

Our community sauna is a social, restorative space, not a solitary box.

That matters more than it sounds. The benefits of sauna are cumulative, and a practice you enjoy is one you repeat.

Pairs with cold plunge

Sauna does its best work as half of a contrast practice.

Alternate it with Cold Plunge or Cryotherapy for the full hot-and-cold cycle. Both are included in bluRITUAL.

Good to know

Sauna questions, answered

What is traditional sauna?

Traditional dry sauna uses high heat to raise your core body temperature, increasing circulation and heart rate in a way similar to moderate exercise. Sessions run 30 to 45 minutes. It's the oldest form of heat therapy and the one with the strongest long-term research behind it.

Do you offer infrared sauna?

No. We offer traditional dry sauna. Traditional sauna reaches higher temperatures and has decades of population research behind it, particularly around cardiovascular health and longevity, which is why we chose it.

How hot does it get, and how long should I stay in?

Traditional sauna runs hot and dry. Most people stay 15 to 20 minutes at a stretch, often over multiple rounds within a 30 to 45 minute visit. Start shorter and build up, and step out whenever you need to.

Is sauna safe?

Sauna is well-tolerated by most healthy adults. It isn't appropriate for everyone, including people with certain heart or blood pressure conditions, and those who are pregnant. Check with your doctor if you have a medical condition, and always hydrate before and after.

How often should I use the sauna?

The benefits are cumulative, so consistency matters more than intensity. Many people go three to four times a week. Long-term studies associating sauna with cardiovascular benefits looked at frequent, regular use over years, not occasional sessions.

Should I do sauna before or after a workout?

Both work. Before a workout, the heat loosens muscles and increases blood flow. After, it supports recovery and helps muscles release. It comes down to what fits your routine.

What's the benefit of pairing sauna with cold plunge?

Alternating heat and cold is where contrast therapy does its best work. The heat dilates blood vessels and the cold constricts them, which drives circulation and recovery. Sauna and cold plunge are both included in bluRITUAL for exactly this reason.

Does sauna help you lose weight?

No. You lose water weight through sweat, which returns as soon as you rehydrate. Sauna is a recovery and cardiovascular practice, not a weight loss treatment, and it works best alongside good nutrition, movement, and sleep.

"Sauna is one of the most effective recovery practices we have, and it's among the best studied. By supporting circulation, cellular function, and the body's stress response, regular heat exposure helps you feel better and function better for years to come."
